Upcoming projects include fan remembrances:
BRUSHES WITH SPALDING

1) I understand that a person close to Spalding is writing a biography. I therefore am no longer involved with such thoughts and aspirations. However, we do encourage people to submit what I call Brushes on Spalding or Brushes with Spalding - stories of how Spalding brightened or changed people's lives.

2) I also understand that a large NY publisher plans to release all Spalding's unpublished works sometime in early new year. I hope Life Interrupted is part of it.

May 28th, 2004 - Larry King has just released a book called Remember Me When I'm Gone (Doubleday 2004). It is a collection of epithaphs by famous people. Spalding had written the following: (quote will be removed by request of publisher):

"Spalding Gray was born in 1941 in Providence, Road Island. He was a loving and devoted father  to his two sons, Forrest and Theo, and his stepdaughter, Marissa Maier. He loved and cherished his wife, Kathleen Russo.

Most of all, Spalding will be remembered for his autobiographical monologues at which he would sit on stage at a table with a glass of water and talk for more than an hour and a half, telling true stories from his life. He was like a talking everyman because his life, although a little eccentric, was not that different from all of ours. Only he would be able to capture in such vivid detail, and highlight it with such humor, that it caused audiences both to laugh and relate.

Spalding Gray was an American original and the "Talking Man" will be dearly missed.

May 25, 2004 - NYC Diary (Swimming to Manhattan)  is now finished and posted as a hyperlink on this site. Enjoy. Soon to be available in hard copy as well as on CD, as read by author. Sold at cost, ALL proceeds go to the Spalding Gray Memorial Scholarship. Email me for details.

May 15, 2004 - Yes, I was at the NYC Memorial which you can  see has it's own link. Today, is the Memorial in Sag Harbor. This is what I write:

to spalding:
it is a spring day
at the sag harbor church
we both aren't there...

IMPORTANT UPDATE - April 2004: As a result of attending the Memorial for Spalding in NYC on  April 13th, 2004, I have added information on the Memorial Scholarship Fund that has been created. I am copying the text from the back cover of the program from Remembering Spalding which has the details for contributing to the Scholarship fund. Please also remember to read my donation section which follows the scholarship info:

In honor of Spalding Gray, a Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established at the Ross School in East Hampton, New York. This scholarship will support middle school and high school students with a talent in writing who are in financial need. To make a donation, please mail a check payable to 'The Ross School' to:

I don't like this part too much but this site has been put together by myself with the knowledge and approval of Spalding (or at least Kathie)...

The (my) costs have been:

1) Domain registration and hosting:

Spaldinggray.com was taken awhile back by an 'internet prospector' who has kept it as a blatant commercial site for a period of time but of course that 'eventually' a site for spalding was to be put up... and of course, it just happens to be for sale for a price - well the price we are offering is his real costs for the year - about twenty bucks - so i assume he will say no because he doesn't realize that with recent court decisions, the days of internet prospectors are over... and then I'll take him to the International Internet Fraud folks and others and eventualy get the domain back to it's intellectual owner - that being Spalding.

April 9, 2004 - www.spaldinggray.com LIVES!

www.spaldinggray.net is taken by the Mexican punkish/electronic music group - hey and  that's cool - good music (translation from Spanish is needed please...)

So that is why I have used the domain I did...

I did it the cheapest way in the long run - www.doteasy.com has a special on domains and hosting together - I may have been able to save $2 a year by going separate, but for convenience, I  went this way - also, I check out their on line support - A+++

COST:   ($25 one year domain and hosting - one could get each separately (www.budgethostingweb.com + www.godaddy.com for $20) - also 2nd year of doteasy is $35)  - I am switching totally to doteasy due to very good price and excellent support! And I've checked EVERY cheap one!

2) Search engine placement

This is important - I am currently looking at programs that do this. I have yet to determine the cost - a program like web position gold is far to expensive.

Note that one of the best ways to get on engines like google are to increase your links from other sites. So I will gladly link exchange links with other sites.

COST:   $40/year + cost of search engine placement

TOTAL COST PER YEAR : $65 + - now down  to $45

March 20, 2004 - It appears that the Memorial service has been  rescheduled to Tuesday, April 13th, at 4:30 to 6 pm at the Lincoln Center, Vivian Beaumont Theatre. At the moment it appears to be by invitation only but that is not clear. I suppose one could call the Theatre and inquire. Please let me know if you find out any details.

As far as I know, the Memorial in Sag Harbor is still May 15th but it maybe a private affair only.

March 10, 2004 - Two memorial services have been planned for Spalding:

The first service will be April 13 at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center, at a time yet to be determined.

The second service is scheduled for 5 p.m. on May 15 at the First Presbyterian Church - also known as the Old Whaler's Church - in Sag Harbor.

March 8, 2004 - Today they found the body of Spalding Gray in the East River (where the Staten Island ferry crosses).

February 26, 2004 - A benefactor has helped us purchase the  domain www.spaldinggray.com  - it is not up yet but it will be the site - spalding recovers his property!!!

February 10, 2004 - Our campaign is about to move into high gear to retrieve the intellectual property of Spalding Gray's - spaldinggray.com after negotiations broke down - I am adding a hyperlink called 'boycott' - stay tuned - we will win Spud no matter where you are...

February 10, 2004 - For the anonymous donation of $20 - thank you.

January 17, 04 : I first found Spalding when he was on Letterman flogging his book Sex and Death to Age 14. I immediately went out and bought it and have been buying everything since. So perhaps I wasn't the first spud head, but I'd like to think I was one of the first. He spoke my language, and my heart and mind both understood.

As I write this, Spalding is still missing and even in New York he is considered missing after being gone the required 7 days. There has been a flurry of misinformation that must have been upsetting to Kathie and his/her family. The  best write up I have read so far is: http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=482019

I will not refer to Spalding in the past and I never will. He is always present in what I write myself and he is always in my heart...When I had just finished this web page and just phoned Seattle for a front row seat for his performance in March, my spouse got me out of bed and said 'CNN just reported that Spalding is missing'...And yet, now I've decided to put this up on the web because as I said, Spalding Lives (in same voice as Che Lives)...

Spud... please call home...
